Pack 618 Committee Meeting Notes November 13th 2007

Old Business
Popcorn -

We had a pretty good year with $3600 raised compared to $3900 last year. We had more scouts last year so those numbers are pretty good.

We still need to collect donations from 5 more families

The committee set the percentage given to the Webelos IIs at 15%. This will be given directly to the troop that they join. No troop, no 15%.

Dawn will announce the top sellers at the next Pack meeting

October Camping - Checks have not been cashed so we can return those at the November pack meeting

BSA 100th Anniversary Logo Design Contest - 100yearanniversary@netbsa.org

Recharter – Sue was not able to make it so we did not discuss this.

  1. Do we have all the money collected?

  2. How do we get the rest?

  3. Date for recharter?

Display cabinet for school – $1200-2000+ does not include shipping - Tom Meyer to ask the foundation and Girl Scouts if they want to split the cost 3 ways. Otherwise foundation will probably have to pay for it all.

Holiday food collection: Chris Rizzuti will organize a food collection at the December Pack Meeting. He will determine which charity will receive the food.

Parent Participation

We had a lengthy discussion about parent participation in the pack. We definitely need to get more parents involved. Some ideas for doing this that were raised:

Pack happy hour or party - not an official scout event, children not encouraged to come. To help recruit leaders.
Cubmaster needs to talk to parents more and recruit them to do things
Promote strong attendance at campouts

Recruiting
One of the reasons why we are having trouble with having enough adults is because our numbers for the younger boys are down. We need to hit the recruiting harder. Some ideas for recruiting.

Recruit at local churches and other organizations which do not already have their own pack
Set up a model camp site at school to get the kids excited about scouting
A reward system for boys who recruit another boy into the pack (in addition to the recruiter patch)
Have the scouts play a visible role in one of the character counts events at school. This worked really well for the Flag day event last year but Flag day is after the end of school so we need to identify another opportunity.
Ask the school if we can have a recruiting event as part of one of the school wide assemblies
Talk to people at the district level about combining with another Pack. Are there any packs out there that are down to a critically small level that we could combine with?
